Chedworth

This gorgeous historical Cotswold cottage felt disconnected from the surrounding landscape. Our clients knew they wanted to bring the flow of the building into the 21st century but they didn’t know how to do so without falling foul of planning legislation. Which is where Rixon Architects came in.

This project gave us a chance to rewrite history but in a way that was sympathetic to the original bricks and mortar. We suggested some small; yet significant changes, like moving the front door to optimise the flow of the living space. Then we worked closely with the conservation officer to create an interesting design that was sympathetic to the building’s heritage location. Finally, we collaborated with a garden designer to ensure the updated home communicated seamlessly with the landscape.

The result is a rejuvenated home that is wonderfully sensitive to its surroundings, where form and function please both the owners and the conservation officer. A home which feels totally at home in its surroundings.
